American Attack on Caracas Stokes Concerns of Potential Danish Territory Annexation.

The latest American strike in Venezuela and the detention of its leader have ignited apprehension regarding America's ambitions on the Arctic territory. Supporters of the ex-president's political movement have reportedly set their sights on the strategically important landmass following the events in the southern hemisphere.

Inflammatory Posts and Official Backlash

Only a short time following the commencement of the Venezuelan campaign, a well-known conservative commentator, who is the spouse of a senior White House aide, posted a symbolic image. The graphic showed Greenland draped with the American flag, with the cryptic message: "COMING."

This blatant suggestion to claim the mineral-rich land, which is a member of the NATO alliance, triggered swift and strong condemnation from Denmark's officials.

"Denmark and the US are close allies and should continue to work together as such. American security is also the Arctic's and our security," declared the Copenhagen's envoy to the United States. "Our nation and the United States collaborate to ensure security in the Arctic."

The ambassador additionally pointed out that the kingdom had substantially increased its defence spending recently, allocating a substantial sum expressly for Northern and North Atlantic security. "Furthermore, we demand full respect for the territorial integrity of the our realm," he added.

Political Moves and Strategic Interests

The situation were further complicated by the previous appointment of a US state governor as a special envoy to Greenland. The governor had openly expressed gratitude to the commander-in-chief, stating it was an "privilege" to serve in a volunteer role to "make Greenland a part of the US."

Following the military action in Venezuela, this representative praised the administration's actions, connecting it to the broader "fight against narcotics."

Ever since returning to office, the American leader has repeatedly alarmed transatlantic partners with his expressed interest in Greenland. The island is considered critically strategic for national security and future resource extraction. It currently houses the most northerly US military base.

Leaving the Door Open to Military Action

In a notable media appearance, the president refused to rule out the resorting to armed action to acquire Greenland. This stance comes during intensifying global competition in the polar region. "I don't rule it out. I don't say I'm going to do it, but I don't rule out anything... We need Greenland very badly," he stated.

He characterized Greenland as having a "very small amount of people, which we’ll take care of, and we’ll cherish them... But we need that for international security."

Mounting Friction and Local Resistance

In reaction to this persistent "rhetoric" of intent, Danish intelligence service took the extraordinary step last month of classifying the United States as a "potential threat."

The leaders of Denmark and Greenland issued a unified and forceful rebuke: "We have said it very clearly before. Now we say it again... You must not take over other countries."

Public opinion in Greenland shows a complex sentiment. While a vast majority of the island's inhabitants desire independence from Copenhagen, there is also scant desire to become part of the United States. The territory has had the legal right to declare independence for over a decade.

Analyst Assessment: A Credible Scenario?

Military experts are now re-evaluating the possibility of such a action. One thinktank director specializing in military analysis admitted she had once discounted the sabre-rattling but was "currently not so sure."

"It wouldn't be that hard for the US to station a couple hundred or a few thousand soldiers on Greenland, and it's unclear to me who could do anything about it," she observed.
