Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts
A revitalized Medvedev won his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.
Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This marks the player's first title following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt from March of that year.
Victory also means the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.
The player's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led observers to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.
Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an better service.
The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.
The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to push for a third set.
Moutet defended four initial break points in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
